Export Jira data to Microsoft Power BI Desktop


To export your Jira data to Microsoft Power BI Desktop, follow these steps:

  1. Inside the Data Processor for Jira appSelect the ‘Data Sources’ section in the left-side menu, and then choose ‘Microsoft Power BI’ from the list.

    On the Home page of the main interface, click the 'Microsoft Power BI' icon.

  2. Locate the specific Data Source you wish to export from the displayed list. Then, hover your cursor over the empty field where the link will appear. Click on this linkto copy it.

    At this stage, you have also the option to edit or delete the Data Source by clicking on the three-line button.

  3. Launch Microsoft Power BI Desktop, and in the application, navigate to the 'Get Data' section. Here, select the option for 'OData feed' to proceed with your data import process.

  4. In the Power BI pop-up window, enter the URL you copied earlier in Step 2, and then click 'OK' to proceed.

  5. In the following pop-up, select ‘Basic' and input your credentials. Use the email associated with your Jira Cloud instance for the email field, and your Jira API Token as the password (for guidance on obtaining your Jira API token, please refer to this page).


    For optimal authentication, it's advisable to select the most detailed option from the drop-down level list. After making your selection, click 'Connect' to proceed.

  3. To access Power BI Service, visit the website https://app.powerbi.com/ and proceed to sign in with your credentials.

  4. After signing into Power BI Service, go ahead and establish a new Workspace (remember to avoid using 'My Workspace'). Then, proceed to add a Dataflow by selecting '+New'.

  5. Choose the option to 'Define new tables' and then proceed by clicking on 'Add new tables'.

  6. Choose 'OData' as your data source. To locate it quickly, utilize the Search bar🔎 for easy and efficient navigation.

  7. In the following window, enter the URL you copied earlier in Step 2. For Authentication kind, choose the 'Basic' option and proceed to enter your credentials.   9. Carry out the necessary data transformations according to your requirements. Once you've completed this step, proceed to select 'Save & close' to finalize your changes and continue with the data process in Power BI Service.
