If you're not a Jira Admin, ensure you have the necessary permissions granted before starting to use the app.

To effectively utilize Data Processor for Jira, you should know how to:

1. Create Data Sources

For a step-by-step guide on creating Data Sources, please refer to our specialized page. This resource offers comprehensive and user-friendly instructions to assist you through the process.

Creating Data Sources in our app is a straightforward three-step process:

  1. Tables and Fields: Select the specific tables and fields you want to export for analysis (it's mandatory to select at least one field).

This key functionality allows you to efficiently export only the necessary data to your chosen BI tools or in CSV/JSON formats.

While selecting data for export, you may notice 'Star' badges (stars_pro.png stars_xray.png) near the name of some tables.

These indicate that the table is available for export only with specific paid add-ons, such as Data Processor for Jira. PRO or Data Processor for Xray. You can find more information about these add-ons in the Apps section or on the Marketplace.

To activate the ‘Next Step button and successfully create a data source, you must select at least one field in the 'Selected tables for export’ section.

  1. JQL Filter: Use JQL to filter and find specific data in your Jira Cloud Instance (this is optional).

  2. Main Information: Enter the Name of the Data Source (mandatory) and a Description (optional).

Once you've entered the Name, click the 'Save+' button, and your Data Source is set up!

Data Processor for Jira. Free is limited to exporting data from Jira Work Management's standard fields. Please see the provided list for details on available tables for export.
Consider using the PRO or Xray extensions for access to additional fields for export.

2. Generate Access Tokens

Generating Access Tokens is a required step for linking your Jira data to BI tools. For detailed instructions on setting up Access Tokens, please see our dedicated page.

An Access Token in the Data Processor for Jira app acts as a secure link between your Jira instance and the BI tool, functioning as a password for safe data transfer. It's a unique code ensuring protected access and data integrity.

To ‘Validate & Save’ this token, navigate to the 'Tokens' section in the app's left-side menu.

This token is essential for setting up and maintaining secure operations with your BI tool.

Creating Access Tokens is not necessary if your goal is solely to export data into CSV/JSON formats.

3. Export Data to the necessary BI tools or formats

For a more detailed understanding of how to export data, please refer to our in-depth guide, where you'll find step-by-step instructions to assist you further.

For exporting data as CSV/JSON, this function is directly available within the app itself. Once you click the 'Save+' button, wait for the status to change to 'READY' before proceeding to export the file. This ensures that the data is fully prepared and ready for export.

Example for JSON:

To link Jira Data with a BI tool of your choice, use OData by copying and pasting the link generated by the app into your BI tool's 'Get Data' section. Log in with the Credentials (use the Access Token created earlier as a password).

Example for Microsoft Power BI (desktop version):

With everything set up, you're now prepared to dive into analysis and visualization using your Jira data. BTW, check our Tips and Trick page for Effortless and Fluent Work with BI Tools.
